class 10 science answer of question Why does the colour of Copper sulphate solution change when an iron nail is dipped in it ?
solution : as we know that Iron is more reactive than copper that is why Iron displaces copper from copper sulphate solution according to the following reaction given below –
Iron + Copper sulphate → Iron(II) sulphate + Copper
Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) → FeSO4 (aq) + Cu(s)
in the above reaction we can see that as copper sulphate reacts to form iron (II) sulphate, the blue colour of copper sulphate solution fades.
in other words this question can be answered as follows –
Ans. When an iron nail is dipped in copper sulphate solution then the reaction happens as follows given below –
Iron + Copper sulphate → Iron(II) sulphate + Copper
Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) → FeSO4 (aq) + Cu(s)
In this above reaction iron displaces copper from copper sulphate solution.
In this reaction we see that the blue colour of copper of copper sulphate solution fades away (become lighter in colour) and Iron nails becomes brown.
